The Real Reason Julian Assange's Internet Connection Was Cut

Julian Assange’s Internet Connection was cut on March 27, 2018 by Ecuadorian officials who are unhappy with his Twitter commentary concerning Catalonia’s drive for independence, which is a major political crisis for Spain. In support of Julian Assange, activists organized an online streamathon to #ReconnectJulian on Thursday March 30, 2018.

This is not the first time Ecuador has severed Assange’s internet connection. During the 2016 U.S. presidential election, his internet was disconnected in retaliation for the publication of the Podesta Emails. Initially, Secretary of State John Kerry denied any U.S. involvement, however a report by NBC News later confirmed the U.S. role in removing Assange’s internet access.

Despite attempts to silence the publisher, the emails continued to flow and will go down as the most effective October surprise in U.S. history.
